Ad Hoc Intergovernmental Task Force on Animal Feeding (TFAF)

In 1999, the 23rd session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) felt there was a need to develop international guidelines which addressed all the issues relating to animal feeding, building on previous work on the Code of practice for good animal feeding (CXC 54-2004). CAC agreed to establish an Ad Hoc Intergovernmental Task Force on Animal Feeding (TFAF) to further develop the code of practice.  

Following adoption of the code of practice, CAC further agreed to extend the mandate of the Task Force to look at a number of further animal feed issues by developing texts on applying risk assessment methodologies to assess human health risks arising from hazards in feed and feed ingredients for food-producing animals, in accordance with Codex principles for risk analysis; and a step-wise approach to prioritize hazards in feed and feed ingredients. Following completion of these texts, TFAF was dissolved but work continues in the relevant CAC subsidiary bodies such as the Codex Committee on Contaminants in Food (CCCF) and the Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues (CCPR).
