CCEXEC90 / Executive Committee wraps up 90th session ahead of Codex Alimentarius Commission

The 90th session of the Executive Committee of the Codex Alimentarius (CCEXEC) has concluded with the adoption of the report. This Session has paved the way for discussions at the 49th session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC49), which will convene in Geneva 6–10 July.

CCEXEC90 undertook a critical review of the texts that have been forwarded to CAC49 for adoption, revision or revocation, and recommended adoption of all work forwarded.

The Committee additionally discussed the implementation report of the Codex Alimentarius Commission strategic plan 2020–2025, noting the importance of Member participation in the entire standard-setting process and also the importance of timely publication and translation of documents. There was also a strong recommendation for continued focus on implementation of Codex texts and related capacity development in all regions, as these contribute to greater impact of Codex standards. The Committee also emphasized the critical importance of ensuring that scientific advice remains adequately and consistently resourced to support ongoing work of Codex.

Dr Allan Azegele, Chairperson of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, thanked the members of CCEXEC for the "strong spirit of collaboration shown during the meeting." Recalling that progress can only be achieved together, Dr Azegele invited them to participate in the upcoming session of the CAC with that same shared commitment.
